Enabling Cheats

In order to use a Cheat you need to bring up the Console by holding down the <CTRL> <SHIFT> <C> keys on your keyboard simultaneously. Doing so opens up the Console at the top of the screen. Type your selected Cheat in the Console box and press <ENTER> to run it.

If you're using Windows Vista and the console won't appear, try pressing the <CTRL> <Windows> <Shift> <C> keys simultaneously.

When you're done cheating, press the <ESC> key to close the Console.

You'll notice a few Cheats below have two options presented in parentheses, for instance (true/false) or (on/off). When you enter a Cheat into the Console you need to pick only one of those options and not include the parentheses.

Example:

  • Cheat description: moveobjects (true/false)
  • What you type in Console: moveobjects true or moveobjects false - pick the option you want and disregard the parentheses.

Money Cheats

  • kaching
Adds 1,000 simoleons to active household's funds.
  • motherlode
Adds 50,000 simoleons to active household's funds. Must be in live Sims mode to use - does not work in neighborhood view.
  • Familyfunds (YourFamilyName amount)
Set your family's funds to whatever you want. Make sure to replace YourFamilyName with the name of your Sim family. Example: entering familyfunds smith 100000 will set the funds of the smith family to 100000.
For the cheat to work you need to enable the TCE cheat, testingCheatsEnabled true and all family members must have the same familyname.

Build Cheats

Cheats suitable for building on lots. For specific tutorials on using these cheats when building your lots, see here.

  • constrainFloorElevation (true/false)
Allows all terrain adjustments regardless of objects, Sims, and other structures on them. Walls, floors, and objects will move with the terrain, allowing you to create sloped walls and floored hills. However, placing new walls/floors will still flatten terrain, and placing objects will still require the terrain to be flat initially if the objects normally require it. Default is "true" - set to "false" to enable this behavior.
  • disableSnappingToSlotsOnAlt (on/off)
When set to "on", objects will not snap to slots while holding <ALT>. Useful for placing objects such as chairs near tables without them snapping in place, or placing counters next to other counters etc.
  • moveObjects (on/off)
Removes footprint limitation for all object placement in Buy Mode and Build Mode. Removes limitations placed on hand tool for when objects are in use or for objects that normally are not movable. Is known to cause issues with game elements, routing, hidden object generation and manipulation, etc.

Be Careful!

Using the moveobjects (on/off) Cheat allows you to delete objects that normally cannot be deleted, such as Sims, the mailbox, and the garbage can. If you delete these objects, there is no way to get them back!

Movie/Picture Taking Cheats

Cheats that are helpful in taking pics and making movies.

  • fadeObjects (on/off)
Toggles whether objects fade when the camera gets close to them.
  • hideHeadlineEffects (on/off)
Hides all Sim overhead effects such as thought balloons and speech balloons.
  • slowMotionViz (0-8)
Puts the visuals of the game in slow motion. Entering a "level" value is optional. Valid values range from 0 = normal speed to 8 = slowest.
  • (Tab)
If Tab is pressed in live mode, the UI will disappear, allowing you to move around freely on the lot. Useful for taking pictures inside of lots.

Miscellaneous Cheats

Cheats that don't fit into any other category, or matches several categories.

  • enable Llamas (on/off)
Gives a message that says, "Llamas enabled." This Cheat does nothing to your game, it appears to be an inside joke inside EA Headquarters.
  • fadeObjects (on/off)
Toggles whether objects fade when the camera gets close to them. Does not apply to Sims.
  • fps (on/off)
Turns the frame rate display in the upper right corner or or off.
  • freeRealEstate
Ignores the cost when buying a lot for the current game. (must be used from edit town mode or from a new game before a family is selected)
  • fullscreen (on/off)
Switches to fullscreen when on, windowed when off. Useful for taking screenshots, which are usually too dark.
  • help <cheatname>
Typing "help" only lists all currently available cheats and a short description of each. Addin a Cheat name after "help" displays just that specific Cheat and it's short description (same description as the overview).
  • jokePlease
Shows random joke on Cheat console.
  • quit
    Exits the game.
  • resetSim (full Sim name)
If your Sim somehow gets "stuck" in an interaction or somewhere around town, or if something gets stuck to it, use this Cheat. This rebuilds the entire Sim from scratch, so give it some time before re-appearing.
    Example: resetSim Agnes Crumplebottom

Take Caution!

When you reset a Sim it is rebuilt with neutral motives, no moodlets, and also teleports the Sim back home.

  • unlockOutfits (on/off)
Includes career outfits and service Sim outfits as options in Create a Sim. The Cheat must be entered before going into CAS.
  • (up arrow)
Recalls the last cheat typed into the cheat window (per game instance).
